Wembley Stadium is located in North West London and was built in 2007 following the demolition of the original Wembley Stadium in 2003. The ground is used to host sporting events, and as the home of English football it stages England’s international football matches, important FA Cup ties, and also a wide variety of music events.
The stadium was designed by Foster + Partners and Populous. It cost a staggering £798 million to build, making it one of most expensive stadiums in the world. Due to its sliding roof covering, it has the biggest covered seating area of any stadium, and the capacity of the bowl-shaped arena is 90,000.
A special feature of the stadium is the ability to convert into an athletics stadium by installing a platform over the lowest level of seating, and its defining feature is the lattice arch which spans the length of the stadium and acts as a support for a great deal of the roof.
